You know the time of year...leaves everywhere!
At first it doesn't seem like a lot - a few here and there on the ground...just enough to get you to feel a bit ~ nostalgic about FALL.
And it doesn't take much for the ground to go from this...
...to this
As landscaping goes, if these leaves are allowed to stay covering my lawn, it will smother the grass underneath, ultimately causing death! Oddly, as I sit looking out my window at the beautiful display of colorful leaves spread all across my lawn - it dawns on me how even that 'beauty' is basically "in disguise"!
Which led me to think about my heart!
You know we have "Spring Cleaning", well how about "Fall pondering"!
My heart has been antsy lately. Not sure why - other than to say I can feel God stirring me ~ calling me ~ drawing me to deep.
And yet, as I look at these leaves so beautifully displayed before me, I can't help but feel like my heart too might be covered with leaves! Not 'real' ones of course, but definitely metaphorically...my heart is covered with ____[beauty in disguise]______ (sin, self, distraction ~ really anything can go here...)!
Just like the ground below my leaves, it cannot grow because it is not exposed to LIGHT...the same is true of my heart ~ it cannot grow if I am not actively, consciously exposing it to THE LIGHT! Oh sure, my 'leaves' might be beautiful, but you better bet they are 'killers' in disguise.
So, it's time to do a little rakin'...
Psalm 85:11-13
"Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
and righteousness looks down from heaven.
The LORD will indeed give what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.
Righteousness goes before him
and prepares the way for his steps."
